Skilled Employment Assistance Program (SEAP)
AIM
There are two aims
of the Project.
- To provide
employment assistance and support to recently arrived migrants less
than two years in Australia, especially skilled and professional
migrants and their partners who are not eligible for Job Network
services.
- To assist local
& regional employers and communities address skills shortages
and gain access to trained staff.
TARGET
GROUP
The project aims to
assist recently arrived migrants less than two years in Australia,
especially skilled and profesional migrants and their partners. The
target group are currently ineligible for intensive assistance
through federally funded employment programs. Based on data
from the Community Jobs Program Employment Initiative (CJP-EI)
program and Overseas Qualification's Unit (OQU), the profile of the
recently arrived skilled migrant job seekers have been
predominantly from the Indian sub-continent (India, Sri-Lanka),
China, Egypt, Malaysia and Singapore with Bachelor Degree,
Master's Degree, Diplomas and Trade or Certificate qualifications
and seek employment in the skill shortage areas of Engineering,
Accountancy, Information Technology, Trades, Teaching and as Health
professionals.
PROJECT
LOCATION
The project will
focus on the areas of settlement for skilled migrants and skill
shortage, with an emphasis on the Southern Metropolitan Region of
Melbourne and surrounding regional areas with skill
shortages.
