Volunteer Tutors

Refugee Resource Centre - Footscray

The New Hope Foundation supports newly emerging ethnic groups and refugee/special humanitarian entrants in the Western region of Melbourne through our current office which is located on the first floor 273 in Barkly Street Footscray.  This office is a resource centre for refugees, providing access for community activities and office space and supported by volunteers from the community.

One of our programs is to assist refugee background students with their school work.  The progam provides homework help and tuition to students primary and secondary who are refugees or newly arrived

The program runs on Tuesday and Thursday between 4-6pm at the Footscray office.

Volunteer tutors can be teachers current or retired, university students, senior high school students, older refugee migrants students or other adults often retired.  Previous experience is not essential.

For those interested we also offer other volunteer opportunities in office administration and support, community engagement, agency orientation and social support activities with refugee groups.

Specifically, this could involve your participation in bus orientation tours of local services with clients, nutritional programs, awareness of local environment (flora and fauna) activity with the Living Museum in the West, community gardening initiatives, sewing and craft activities, setting up and/or running internet/computer classes.  All activities are targeting newly arrived refugee groups.
