Volunteers
play a vital role in assisting our Culturally and Linguistically
Diverse (CALD) Clients feel less isolated and a part of the wider
community. All volunteers are provided with training and
ongoing support.
The NH
MRC offers a range of services to assist migrants and refugees and
volunteer assistance particularly bi-lingual volunteers are sought
for the following program areas:

Volunteer Tutors
Refugee Resource Centre - Footscray
The New Hope
Foundation supports newly emerging ethnic groups and
refugee/special humanitarian entrants in the Western region of
Melbourne through our current office which is located on the first
floor 273 in Barkly Street Footscray. This office is a
resource centre for refugees, providing access for community
activities and office space and supported by volunteers from the
community.
One of our programs is to assist refugee background students with
their school work. The progam provides homework help and
tuition to students primary and secondary who are refugees or newly
arrived
The program runs on Tuesday and Thursday between 4-6pm at the
Footscray office.
Volunteer tutors can be teachers current or retired, university
students, senior high school students, older refugee migrants
students or other adults often retired. Previous experience
is not essential.
For those interested we also offer other volunteer opportunities in
office administration and support, community engagement, agency
orientation and social support activities with refugee groups.
Specifically, this could involve your participation in bus
orientation tours of local services with clients, nutritional
programs, awareness of local environment (flora and fauna) activity
with the Living Museum in the West, community gardening
initiatives, sewing and craft activities, setting up and/or running
internet/computer classes. All activities are targeting newly
arrived refugee groups.

A free
Homework Support Program at Oakleigh Adult Migrant Employment
Service for all Secondary school students needing assistance with
their studies.
What you can do at the program?

computers, printers and photocopiers to finish
assignments
