New Hope's Services

New Hope Foundation Inc

The New Hope foundation will continue to support newly emerging ethnic groups and Refugee/Special humanitarian entrants in the Western region of Melbourne through our current office which is located on the first floor 273 in Barkly Street Footscray.   This office will be a resource centre for refugees, providing access for community activities and office space and will be supported by volunteers from the community.  Agencies currently delivering services to Refugee/Special Humanitarian entrants will also be collocated at this site.   We will continue to provide updates on NHF activities and services as they develop.  The NHF will continue to work with refugees in the region on the basis of relationships that we have established over the previous four years as the IHSS service provider in the Western region.  Activities that will be undertaken will focus on the identified needs which are outside the scope of the IHSS program.

The following activities will be a focus of the NHF refugee resource centre in Footscray:

  • Bilingual consultants/aides to support service providers and agency staff in engaging communities and families in group programs and service access
  • Development of refugee community reference groups to provide information specific to cultural/ethnic groups, ongoing consultations re identifying emerging needs and service gaps and advocating for access to service support.
  • Delivery of tailored cross cultural training including new and emerging community profile forums
  • Refugee/community discussion groups
  • Material aid assistance (through NHF material aid service in Sunshine in partnership with Business Warehouse)
  • Community bus hire
  • Agency visits through bus orientation tours for newly arrived refugee community groups
  • Volunteer placement opportunities in material aid service, office administration and support, community engagement, agency orientation and social support activities with refugee groups
  • Eastern and Central African Community association of Victoria (African Holistic Settlement services)
  • Ethiopian Community Association in Victoria
